Thinking About Community

Building a company is all about doing things for the first time and trying not to screw them up too bad.

So what should I do going forward?

I think the goal should be to generate as many leads as possible for Boomering in the next month.

How do I build a community of interested people?

  1. Facebook “dead end” advertisements. – find the cost per ad.
  2. Google “dead end” advertisements. – find the cost per ad.
  3. Landing page
  4. Reddit posts
  5. Twitter posts

It’s time to experiment and start start communicating to potential customers. Generate a list of emails and send them an update once every two weeks with the progress on the product. Cultivate a following and reward the most loyal followers. It’s incredibly important that I start validating this with a larger group. Friends and family have been helpful in validating the idea, but does this have legs outside that? More importantly, can I figure out how to sell this?

At the end of the day, it’s really a waitlist I’m building. Something to create buzz around. The concern I have are as follows:

  1. Should I tip my hand in the market? Lots of big companies are thinking about audio messaging. There’s a risk I get pushed out of the market before I have a product ready for the market.
  2. What if my time to market is longer than expected. Building hype for an MVP is dangerous as the product I launch first won’t match the hype the customers are looking for.

Decision: Move forward and push development timeline forward.
