Rise of Social Audio

Since ClubHouse exploded onto the scene in 2020 and early 2021 there has been a ton of interest in social audio companies. I think the pandemic helped push this rise. People likely had never felt so separated, and hearing another person’s voice or being in an audio room with other people helped that separation anxiety. My thinking is that chat apps also suck, and they’ve devolved into poor vessels for empty communication. There is too much left unsaid, or misconstrued when you read an acronym or look at an emoji. And memes, good lord memes, they suck.

People want to talk to each other. Voice has tone, feeling, and a clarity that text does not. I’m building something that hopefully helps people talk again. We will see. But if I fail there’s lots of other companies that are building great social audio options. Here’s a great list by @Mariedolle below. Until we launch, I hope you try some of these out.
