Mobile Is Massive for Africa

I lived in Tanzania for five and a half years.  In that time, I saw some phenomenal changes in the penetration of mobile products.  I pulled some stats today to show what I mean.

In 2009, when I arrived, there were 4,192,683 mobile subscribers.  When I left, if 2015, there were 53,843,917 subscribers.  The country went from less than 10% mobile penetration to over 100% penetration in 5 years.  If someone told you that mobile phones would have the biggest impact on Africa, you would have said they were crazy.  But now, thanks to mobile, people can access services they never had before.  Mobile has been massive for Africa, and I’m proud to have been a part of it.
