{"id":485,"date":"2018-10-15T21:22:38","date_gmt":"2018-10-15T19:22:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jongore.com\/blog\/?p=485"},"modified":"2018-10-15T21:22:38","modified_gmt":"2018-10-15T19:22:38","slug":"mental-model-mondays-decision-journaling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jongore.com\/blog\/startup\/mental-model-mondays-decision-journaling\/","title":{"rendered":"Mental Model Mondays: Decision Journaling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is a mental model I haven&#8217;t started yet.\u00a0 I bought a book about it yesterday, called the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Decision-Checklist-Practical-Avoiding-Problems-ebook\/dp\/B07CS68KPZ\">&#8220;The Decision Checklist&#8221;<\/a>, and the first three chapters were good.\u00a0 My wife and I tried it, albeit not journaling but using the framework to discuss an important decision in our life, and we both got some value out of it.\u00a0 I used the framework at work today as well, and it helped me frame a complex issue to my team.\u00a0 The most important part for me is the review and reflection.\u00a0 Writing something down in my own handwriting has a powerful effect on how I rationalize what I wrote.\u00a0 Looking back on journals I kept five years ago, I&#8217;m often struck by just how different I was at the time.\u00a0 And instead of trying to rationalize it, I try and put myself back in the shoes I wore.\u00a0 When I read my words on a screen; however, I&#8217;m far more likely to disregard them as a moment of weakness or poor thought.\u00a0 \u00a0It&#8217;s easier to skip through typed words.
