Travel is not a mental model, but the results and experiences one receives through travel are often invaluable.\u00a0 I’ve lived most of my life as an expat now, and I still make it a point every year to travel somewhere new with my wife.\u00a0 This is in part due to our generation, the millennials, valuing experiences over possessions. It’s also in part due to a recognition that seeing the world and interacting with people from different cultures is a great way to learn about oneself and other people.\u00a0 \u00a0There are several ways to travel, but travelling is best done when you seek to interact with the people you meet and visit.\u00a0 Seeing the Buddhist temples in Kyoto is amazing, but doing it on foot without a map\u00a0is what makes the journey memorable.\u00a0 Technology now allows tourists to travel through destinations without looking up from their phone.\u00a0 There’s little risk in getting lost and asking someone for help when Google Maps directs you to every stop.\u00a0 But the stories that you bring back are usually the interactions you have with people.\u00a0 \u00a0What’s even better, is it helps you learn how to communicate better, to read signals, and to not take yourself too seriously.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
