Here\u2019s a\u00a0summary from the Communications Authority of Kenya on sector performance and trends\u00a0on the key segments of mobile telephony and electronic transactions\u00a0for the financial year 2016\/2017 (July – September):<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Mobile Telephone Subscriptions:\u00a0<\/b>38.5M subscribers, down from 39.7M. A decline of\u00a03.0%\u00a0from the last quarter. This was as a result of revision of mobile subscription data by Telkom Kenya.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

New Subscriptions:\u00a0<\/b>Dropped\u00a0<\/span>1.1M, during the\u00a0quarter\u00a0under review, compared to an increase of 1.4M subscriptions recorded\u00a0<\/span>during the previous\u00a0quarter.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Mobile Money Transfer Subscriptions:\u00a0<\/b>31.0M subscriptions, up from 26.3M. A 17.9% growth from the last quarter.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Mobile Money Agents:\u00a0<\/b>169,698, up from 158,727. A 6.91% growth during the quarter.<\/p>\n

MNO MARKET SHARE<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Airtel:\u00a0<\/b>17.5% – up from 16.6% reported in the previous quarter.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Safaricom:\u00a0<\/b>69.0% – up from 65.2% reported from the previous quarter.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Telkom Kenya (Orange):\u00a0<\/b>7.6% – down from 13.2% reported from the previous quarter.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Finserve Africa Limited (Equitel):\u00a0<\/b>5.9% – up from 5.1% reported from the previous quarter.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Sema Mobile:\u00a0<\/b>Below\u00a00.0% market share acquisition – new MVNO\u00a0entrant during the financial year 2015\/2016.<\/p>\n
