I’m often immersed in the African fintech scene. There’s so much going on here. It’s the home of M-Pesa. Fintech companies are literally improving people’s lives. The products are exciting. I love it. But I think I often miss what is going on around the world in fintech. So this year I’ve started an old habit I used to follow.
Each month I download a bunch of new apps onto my phone. There’s a dedicated screen for new apps on the second screen of my phone. I force myself to use and play with them as much as I can. If the app is great, it either moves onto my home page or into a folder on the third page. The first page of apps are apps I use frequently, or click on without a job to do, just to check it out. The third page apps must perform a certain job that I need. Those are rarely used but my favorite for their specific use case.
In order to keep up with the fintech scene around the world I’ll include a new fintech app in each monthly download. I’ve started this month with Robinhood and Acorns. I’ll play around on each of these throughout the month, and if I love them, I’ll let you know. If you have a good idea on how to do app reviews, I’d love to hear it as well. Happy Apping.
